Your Local Car has won its first major award for 2020, the Surrey and Hampshire BIZ Award for Digital Innovation.
We’re very proud of this latest award, as it recognises our investment in technology to make it easier, quicker and cheaper for our customers to book a private hire car online, via the app or by phone.
We’re very ‘appy
The downloads for our free Your Local Car booking app have continued to rise way beyond our 20% target even during the lockdown. Our customers clearly love how they can book cars on their phones and track their driver’s arrival times in real time on a map. The app also provides a contactless, paperless way of booking, issuing email receipts rather than paper.
Equally, thanks to our state of the art telephone system, our office team are all working safely from home and able to take bookings over the phone just as before. They too can dispatch, track and update clients on availability, arrival via text, email or the app, as well as giving quotes for specific journeys. The only thing you might hear that’s a little different is the odd dog/cat/small child in the background during your call!
A greener way of working thanks to tech
The judges also recognised how the use of technology enables us to be more environmentally friendly. We reduce ‘dead’ miles for drivers by allocating them return fares if they venture beyond our normal operating area of Camberley, Frimley, Deepcut, Farnborough, Aldershot and surrounding areas. Our app is also paper-free, of course.
As Your Local Car owner Peter White said in the original application:
“The company’s results speak for themselves. Last year, Your Local Car had 40,000 passenger movements, created 35 jobs for local people, and enjoyed a 22 per cent year on year growth. All aided with technology that works for us, our customers and our continued ability to serve our local community.”
What, no award ceremony?
Due to the lockdown, there was no opportunity for Peter to don his dinner suit and black tie, as the original in-person ceremony was taken online. Instead, the announcements were made in a live webcast on Eagle Radio’s website. Needless to say the team were glued to their PCs and phones, but with the announcement made at midday and work to be done after lunch, the champagne was on ice until after 6pm!
Awards in the time of COVID
Needless to say, we’re also delighted to receive an award during these unusual days of lockdown. Our app has proved an important lifeline for many customers wanting to book cars rather than take public transport to shop for their food, to collect medicines, attend scheduled medical appointments, or just get out to a park for some sunshine. They see the benefits of no queuing, shorter journey times due to less traffic, considerate local drivers, and our policy of thorough disinfecting precautions between rides. Each customer’s potential exposure to other people is drastically reduced each journey to just a single person, and there’s also the opportunity to open the car windows wide and let the air flow in this lovely weather too.
